Why Butterfinger is the perfect candybar

I consider myself to be a bit of a candy aficionado from a long line of candy aficionados. I remember many a night when my dad made a candy bar run. He would come back with one of each of us. Mom's was always a Chunky and the others varied. I have traditionally been more of a sugary candy lover. When we were growing up, Joey and I would collect bottles in the wagon and walk the few miles to the nearest drug store and turn the bottles in for $.10 a piece. (We lived in Michigan.) Splitting our profit we would each get a small bag of Laffy Taffy, SweetTarts, wax lips, pixie sticks, etc.

Just recently I have taken a greater liking to candy bars. I appreciate the traditional Snickers. My favorite of the new ones is Take 5. But Amanda and I both agree that the best one is a Butterfinger. It is the perfect mix of chocolate, salty, sweet, crunchy, chewy. Mmmm. I'm actually about to finish one off right now. I love an afternoon snack of a Butterfinger and the remaining gulps of my morning coffee.

How about you? Sugar candy? Chocolate? What's the one that you reach for when you need a sugar fix?

Alex says he likes peanut M&M's .

I never understood your sugar candy fixation. Why gummy worms? I would never buy those. It's chocolate all the way for me. If I'm at the checkout line I usually opt for a peanut butter cup, which is funny since I'm not a huge peanut butter fan. I also enjoy plain M&M's. Every once in a while I get a hankerin for the white chocolate oreo candy bar--can't remember it's name. But let's face it. It would be a cold day in hell before I turn down any candy bar. I haven't had a Butterfinger in quite some time. What I remember about them is it sticks in your teeth. I will have to revisit this. Fun post.

Well---how 'bout the French melt-in-your-mouth Truffles John B.brings to my office! Divine. On a more pedestrian level: Junior Mints.

I totally agree with "T" (which why the anonymous comments?) not because she is my BFF but Butterfingers stick in the teeth. For that reason, I can't do it.

Kit Kat.
No ifs, ands or buts about it.

Crap, now I want one...

I love candy... take 5, baby ruth, snickers, peanut butter cups top the candy bar side. Sour patch kids, swedish fish, and those sour cherry coke bottles (that Meijer used to have) top the sugary stuff list for me!

MMMM Candy- one of my favorite topics of discussion. If you have candy on hand I'll probably indulge (especially if it's of the sugary, gummy variety). Have you ever tried Brach's orange slices? If not, you should.

Sarah-I just recently threw out your bucket of orange slices(like my housekeeping skills?) You only finished like half the bucket in the few days you were here. They probably were just fine too, I should've re-gifted them to you- sorry.

Take 5 is my ultimate right now but I haven't had one in maybe a year...I usually just indulge in my nightly after-dinner square of 72%+ dark chocolate...it's good for me!!

Tricia and Holly,
"Butter finger sticks in your teeth . . ." You better believe it does. It's one of my favorite parts. When you think your candy bar is all done, you're wrong. You still have some left over in your teeth. Don't be shy. Just put your finger in there and pick out the remnants.

Andy - I could do an entire post (or three) on candy bars. I celebrate virtually all candy bars save Mounds and Almond Joy. I've been a Snickers backer since childhood, but I think Butterfinger would be my second for the myriad reasons you so eloquently enumerated. Your argument is sound, and I couldn't agree more about enjoying a Butterfinger long after the initial frenzy.

Dad introduced me to the Butterfinger-Heath Blizzard at a young age...a craving I still embrace.

Finally, my favorite part of this entire post is that you tagged it "philosophizing" - you take your candy seriously, as any well-rounded man should.

Gregg,
While I do take my candy very seriously, I also take my "philosophizing" not so seriously. When I came up with the tag "philosophizing" I wanted it to describe when I get a little preachy on my blog, which I have a tendency to do. I try and keep the blog pretty light, but sometimes I want to go a little deeper. When I do, I always want to keep in my mind that my opinions are only those--opinions. Thanks for reading.
